Message: There are many aspects of this store which I like, and shall write about, but first. the reason why I am giving this store only three stars:. First time I went in was to have a metal button, called a bachelor button, so I was told, sewn in a pair of pants. I was referred to this place by a sewing shop called Transformations that, strangely, does not do simple repairs of men's clothing.. One of the women on staff at Hap's is a seamstress and leather worker. It took her almost a week to get the button, with a patch backing (see pictures) sewn in.. I didn't mind waiting that long, and a bit later, brought in another pair of pants to have the same thing done.. This time, I waited two weeks, then called. Not done. I waited another week, and then called. She said, still not done, but she would get it done that afternoon.. Yeah. 3 weeks for a very simple, very small job.. When I went in to pick up my pants, I asked why the woman took so long, and she said she was on vacation. She then asked when I'd brought in the pants. I pointed to the claim ticket she'd attached to the pants. The date on the ticket, she said, was before she went on vacation. She said, "Oh well, I guess I was here. ". Then she said, "We are really behind in our leather work. Really behind. I don't do work while people wait. ". No apology from her at all. I was shocked.. I was in this place a total of four times. During at least part of my visit (I liked to browse and try on hats), I noticed the woman and two others on staff hanging out toward the back of one side of the store, talking, not working. The seamstress certainly had opportunity to sew my pants in a timely fashion! That is the reason for the three star rating.. There were two younger women I talked with. One wasn't particularly friendly, but at least not rude, and was helpful enough.. The other, a petite young blonde, was starting her first day on the same day as my first visit to the store. She was very nice and helpful, all four times I was there. I liked her a lot.. Alright then. more good news about this place.. Plenty of horse stuff, which I know nothing about.. The other side of the store is mostly LOTS of hats and boots, and some shirts.. A surprising selection of unusual hats! Wow! Some are even great for theater costumes.. I had fun trying on many hats, and bought one.. If it weren't for the crazily long wait to have my second pair of pants sewn, and the severely poor service from the seamstress, I would give this place at least 4 stars. Maybe 5, even.. Will I be back? Likely not, especially if I can find someone else who knows how to sew on a bachelor button.

Message: Wonderful western clothes, tack for your horses. I bought an awesome COWBOY HAT there today. The service is exceptional, you will be treated like an old friend. Leather repairs can be done, truly a very interesting one stop shop for all ages!

Message: I brought my wife in to look at boots, we spent a half hour browsing before beginning to look at the boots. Great selection of new and consignment boots & hats. Awesome selection of leather tack and chaps. Nice dress & working coats/overcoats. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. They treated us like family. Next time I'm in town it'll be my first stop for western gear.

Message: We really enjoyed our visit there. I had a bridle repaired and we bought a very cool cowboy metal scuplture there. Happy to have a unique shop like this around with decorating items and western tack. The employees are accommodating and the repair was good and reasonably priced.

Message: Another Boise treasure. Hap Tallman has it all, which is crazy because the store is so small. Boots, hats, shirts pants salt-lick, lineament, saddles, a full-service leather repair bench. Leather product, gloves... a quirt, or a bull-whip if that's what you need. Hell, they'll MAKE you the bull-whip. Or a pair of leather suspenders (seen them worn about town).. Yeah, they can get suddenly busy, victims of their own popularity. Longtime customers seem to appear en mass, and service can suffer but you know? There's usually only three of them and they give *everyone* their direct attention. You might have to wait a spell for it, but oh well.. The fact this store EXISTS is a miracle, we all toast Carol Tallman's good health around Boise.. You can find everything they sell elsewhere or online but half the fun is actually visiting the store --which has been in the same location since the '40's (I recall). Happy to pay a bit more to support this local treasure.

Message: This is the littlest biggest Western Store in Boise. Lots of boots, hats, tack ect. - new & used. She has a lot of consignment items, hand made Indian jewelry and misc. - and a lot of history here. Very fun place to check out

Message: Friendly staff and great service is why these folks have been in business for such a long time. Over the years, I have purchased boots, hats, jewelry, tack and other horse supplies, and had work done on saddles and other leather gear. They've always done great work at a fair price. I LOVE THIS STORE!
